How to build a UTM link
Three steps, and consistent naming is the only part that takes discipline.
- 1
Add the destination
Paste the page you want traffic to land on, including http:// or https://. Existing query parameters are preserved.
- 2
Tag the campaign
Set source, medium and campaign — a channel preset fills the first two in one click — plus term and content if you are splitting keywords or creatives.
- 3
Ship it
Copy the finished URL into your ad, email or post, or download a QR code for offline placements.
Sending traffic to a mobile app? UTM parameters do not survive the App Store or Play Store — see how deferred deep linking carries campaign context through the install and credits the right campaign.
Tagging is half the job — measuring is the other half
Deeplinkly turns UTM-tagged links into branded short links with click and install analytics, deferred deep linking and campaign attribution for iOS and Android. Free plan, no credit card.
UTM builder FAQ
What is a UTM builder?+
A UTM builder appends tracking parameters — utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content — to a destination URL so analytics tools like Google Analytics can tell you which channel, campaign and creative sent each visitor. This one builds the URL live as you type, so you can copy it straight into an ad, email or social post.
Which UTM parameters should I always set?+
utm_source (where the traffic comes from, e.g. google), utm_medium (the marketing type, e.g. cpc or email) and utm_campaign (the campaign name, e.g. black_friday_2025). utm_term is for paid keywords and utm_content distinguishes ad variants or links within the same campaign — both are optional. This tool warns you on copy if any of the three recommended parameters is missing.
Why are my UTM values lowercased and underscored?+
Analytics tools treat Google and google as two separate sources, which splits one campaign across several rows in your reports. The builder normalises every value to lowercase and replaces spaces with underscores as you type, so your tagging stays consistent across everyone on the team.
Is my data sent anywhere?+
The URL is assembled entirely in your browser — nothing you type is sent to Deeplinkly. The one exception is the optional QR code, which is rendered by the third-party api.qrserver.com service, so the generated link is sent there when you click Generate QR code.
Do UTM parameters work for mobile app links?+
They identify the campaign, but on their own they stop at the App Store or Play Store — a user who installs the app loses the parameters, so the install is never credited to the campaign. Deferred deep linking carries the campaign context through the install and hands it to your app on first open. That is what Deeplinkly adds on top of UTM tagging.
Is this free? Do I need an account?+
Completely free, no login. A Deeplinkly account adds the reporting side — click and install analytics per campaign, branded short links and deferred deep linking — but the builder itself needs no signup.
